What Does a BESS Sales & Business Development Do?
BESS Sales and Business Development professionals drive revenue growth for battery energy storage manufacturers, EPCs, developers, O&M service providers, and technology companies. They identify customer needs, structure commercial proposals, manage complex multi-stakeholder sales cycles, and close deals that range from C&I behind-the-meter systems to utility-scale grid storage projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
The BESS sales landscape is technically sophisticated — buyers are engineers, project developers, and utilities with deep knowledge of what they need. Successful BESS sales professionals combine commercial acumen with genuine technical fluency: they understand battery chemistry, grid services, interconnection economics, and the regulatory environment well enough to have credible conversations with any stakeholder.
Business development roles focus on partnerships, channel relationships, market expansion, and strategic origination. These professionals identify new market opportunities, structure JVs and teaming agreements, and develop the relationships that drive a pipeline of future projects.
